The Christian Science Greater Houston
Communications Committee (HouCom) is a joint
committee comprised of representatives of ten
participating Christian Science Branch Churches
and Societies in the Greater Houston area.
Our Mission is to answer our Lord’s command, "Go
ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to
every creature." (Mark 16:15.)
Our Purpose is to share Christian Science with
spiritual seekers in the Houston area and
provide a cost-effective communications resource
for local broadcasting activities.
Our primary activity is to support broadcast
programming produced by The First Church of
Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
In 1988 the Christian Science Publishing Society
began producing English and Spanish radio and
television programs in various formats.
Individual churches in Houston, The Woodlands,
and Pasadena applied for, and received,
financial assistance from the R. Charlie
Hamilton Fund (a fund whose designated purpose
was to promote Christian Science activities in
Texas); and each church began sponsoring
programs in its own geographical area. In 1990,
representatives of churches in the Greater
Houston area met to explore ways to eliminate
duplication of broadcasts and the accompanying
waste of resources. The Christian Science
Greater Houston Communications Committee (HouCom)
was born.
Fifteen years later, in 2005, financial
assistance from the Hamilton Fund was
discontinued; and HouCom’s impressive broadcast
schedule was downsized. However, we have
continued to share The Christian Science Bible
Lesson, The Sentinel, and El Heraldo on radio,
television and, recently, by telephone. Also,
this website (christiansciencehouston.com), with
the cooperation of Seventh Church of Christ,
Scientist, Houston, was established.
During the past 18 years we have also
participated in expositions, book fairs, and
ethnic festivals, as well as three annual
Pastoral Care events at the invitation of a
chaplain at M. D. Anderson Hospital after she
had attended a Christian Science lecture.
Since May 2005, HouCom has been entirely funded
by its ten participating churches along with
generous contributions from individuals,
out-of-area churches, bequests, etc.
Contributions are tax deductible and will be
gratefully received at our new mailing address:
